COLUMBARIUM PROGRESS
Everything is now in place for construction of the Columbarium to commence; we have received approvals from the City of Melville and the Diocese and a contract has been signed with a builder. Unfortunately however we have experienced a delay with the supply of large limestone blocks for the construction of the Columbarium (all of the walls are limestone). Both the architect; Simon Pendal and the builder; Michael Cicanese are in regular contact with Perth’s limestone quarries to source the blocks. The two major suppliers have advised that what is coming out of the quarry at present is unacceptable to use. Additionally; both suppliers are having difficulty in obtaining new permits with the Environmental Protection Authority to quarry new areas. At this stage the plan for the Parish is to keep in touch with the builder and the quarries and hopefully in the coming weeks we will have a clearer picture about availability of the limestone. A further update will be provided in April in order to keep Parishioners informed.
