The Goan Association with the Hawes Heritage Events is holding a Hawes Heritage Trail Pilgrimage from 25th August to 27th August 2022. Monsignor John Hawes arrived in Geraldton in 1915 and worked initially in several outback parishes before being assigned to the Mullewa Parish.
During his time with the Geraldton Diocese, as well as ministering as a priest, he designed 44 buildings, 29 of which were built. St Francis Xavier Cathedral in Geraldton is one of his creations. Today his buildings are being restored and a Heritage Centre (Monsignor Hawes Heritage Inc) exists to make him better known to Australians. As well as visiting Hawes Heritage Trail sites, the Pilgrimage will include visits to the Kalbarri Skywalk, the Pink Lake, and will take in the local wildflowers.
